Successful landscape photography is nearly always best done early or late in the day when the color of light enhances the landscape. Also, the long shadows that result from the low angle of the sun help to delineate the shape of objects in the photograph. However, in the slot canyons (this one is in Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona) making a decent image can only be done when the sun is high in the sky, at noontime, throwing its bright rays down into the deep, dark crevices providing some light on the canyon walls. Even at that, the light is mostly reflected, not direct. This is very desirable for photography because the illumination is more uniform and renders important details much better. Exposures here are usually long, more than a second, requiring the use of a sturdy tripod.

Putting a title on my images is usually somewhat of a game, often the first thing that pops into my head. Such is the case here where it looks just like chaos to me. See also "Doorway to the Light," "From the Center of the Earth," "God Beam" and "Kiss."
